Important Alert Submittal Announcement
Reminder: This will be the FINAL edition of the Alert for the academic school year. However, the Alert will be sent out once over the summer in the month of July. The first Alert for the fall semester will be August 25, 2008 – look for an e-mail in August about submittal dates and deadlines.
Residential Life Announcements
*REMINDER ABOUT HALLS CLOSING AND MOVE OUT - Students are required to move and check out of their residence halls within 24-hours after their last final. Students who need an extension should contact their RA or RD as soon as possible to fill out a request to remain on campus. All residence halls will close on Sunday, May 11 at 12 noon.
Public Safety Announcements
SUMMER VEHICLE STORAGE - PUBLIC SAFETY If you plan on leaving your vehicles on campus during the summer you will need to stop by the Public Safety office during the next two weeks and fill out a form. You must have a spare key to leave with your form at that time. Keys will not be accepted at the Welcome Center. Parking for the summer will be at the lower end of Flex Hill facing the track and down the hill. Please be sure your vehicle is locked securely and nothing of value is visible.
If you plan on going on a Mission Trip and leaving your vehicle on campus you will also need to fill out a form and park in the same location. A spare key is not necessary. Please see Mandy for a storage form.
Bicycles may be left at your Resident Hall only with the RD’s permission.
Motorcycles are not allowed to be stored on campus for the summer.
Academic Announcements
*GRADUATING SENIORS - Please pick up your regalia at Gipe beginning Wednesday, May 7th through Friday, May 9th. Please pick up your regalia as early as possible in order to avoid the rush. Your student account must be cleared prior to picking up regalia.
SUMMER SCHOOL COURSES - If you are planning to take a course this summer at another college/university, please stop by the Records Office with the course description and be sure to fill out our course approval form. This form needs to be submitted to and approved by the Records Office before the end of the spring semester. If you take any courses that are not pre-approved, you may not receive the credit you anticipated.
SAT II LANGUAGE EXAM - The LJML Dept. will give the SAT II Language Exam in French, German and Spanish, August 25, 2008 at 4 p.m. in BAC103. Qualifications for taking the exam: At least 3 years of the language and it has been less than two years since your last language class. Cost is $17.00 when you sign up with Edie or Rachel in the BAC main office before May 9th.
Financial and Scholarship Announcements
UNMET NEED SCHOLARSHIP - Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program supplements financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students’ financial needs. The Unmet Need Scholarship Program is open to US citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible to apply. Recipients are selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,800. STUDENT-TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP - Area XI, Division 69, East County, San Diego, CA Retired Teachers Association pledges up to three $1500 scholarships for the 2008-09 school year. Scholarship money is to be used for tuition and/or books and supplies during student-teaching semesters. Applicants who have already completed student-teaching or who will not be student-teaching during the year of the scholarship are not eligible. Applicants must have a BA, be enrolled in the teacher-training program of the University, and be a resident of San Diego County. CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP - Christian Community Credit Union’s Focused on the Future Scholarship Program offers $40,000 in scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000. Recipients must be members of Christian Community Credit Union and enrolled at an accredited college, university, or seminary taking 12 units or more for undergraduate students and 8 units or more for graduate and post-graduate students. *TEXTBOOK SCHOLARSHIP FUND - PLNU Bookstore is starting a Textbook Scholarship Fund! At our textbook buyback, any textbook that has "no value" and you will not receive any money for, you can donate it, we will try to sell it on the wholesale market and donate the money to a Textbook Scholarship Fund for PLNU students. This fund will be administered by Financial Aid. Don't drag those "no value" books around, just donate them to a good cause!

PLNU STUDENT CHAMBER GROUP WINS A SPOT AT THE CENTRUM CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL - PLNU String Quartet members Lisa Freed, violin; Jessica Jenkins, violin; Rachel Smyth, viola; and Peter DeChant, cello have won a competitive spot in this summer's Centrum Chamber Music Festival in Port Townsend, Washington. The musicians will receive intensive instruction and coaching by world-renowned chamber musicians, including the Tokyo String Quartet. Keep your eyes and ears open for notice of any fund raising events the quartet will host in order to raise money for this opportunity.
SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL - Mark your calendars for the Spring Music Festival on Friday, May 9, 7:30 p.m. in Crill Performance Hall. This concert will showcase the best that the PLNU Music Department has to offer and will also pay honor to our graduating seniors. Admission is FREE!

Beginning in March, appointments can be made only one week at a time, rather than 3 weeks ahead.
Schedule next week’s appointment each time you come in.
KEYS TO TESTING SUCCESS
1. Read questions & directions carefully; read directions twice.
2. Answer easy questions first and plan time to come back to the more difficult.
3. Pay attention to the wording of questions, especially qualifiers such as “if,” “except,” “always,” “never,” “most,” “least” or words that create a negative statement.
4. Choose the best possible answer.
5. Re-read each question after answering it.
6. Only change an answer if you realize that you misunderstood the question, miswrote or omitted important information.
7. Answer every question & write legibly.
8. Plan your use of time for essay exams to allow some proofreading.
9. Know how much you can write; make a brief outline or list of information to help you organize your essay answers.
10. Compose each essay paragraph with a clear topic sentence and supporting details.
11. After you finish writing, re-read the essay question and your answer to make sure your answer clearly responds to the full question.
