*SUMMER SCHOOL COURSES - If you are planning to take a course this summer at another college/university, please stop by the Records Office with the course description and be sure to fill out our course approval form. This form needs to be submitted to and approved by the Records Office before the end of the spring semester. If you take any courses that are not pre-approved, you may not receive the credit you anticipated.

*WEB REGISTRATION PREPARATION - You will be unable to register during priority registration (beginning April 14th) if you do not have clearance from your advisor. Please make sure your advisor clears you for BOTH the Summer 2008 and Fall 2008 semesters. If you are planning to register for a course that requires "Instructor Consent", please see the instructor prior to your Web-Reg time. Time and space is of the essence...the sooner the better!

*GENERAL ED LIT CLASS: FANTASY LITERATURE WITH DR. LESCART - Looking for a GE Lit class for Fall 2008? LIT 205: Great Works, The Novel, featuring Fantasy Literature, will be offered Tuesdays 6-7:40 p.m. Taught by Alain Lescart, this class counts for General Ed credit.

Financial and Scholarship Announcements


*HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR ACCOUNT? - It’s the week before priority registration begins – do you know where your student account is? Please go online to check your account on your portal. You’ll want to make sure that your account is paid in full and that you do not have any financial holds, so that you will be able to register for classes and participate in room selection without delay. If you do have a balance, please contact Student Financial Services right away to settle your account at sfs@pointloma.edu or 619-849-2538. Of course, you are always welcome to drop by our offices in Draper Hall as well. We are here to serve you!

*UNMET NEED SCHOLARSHIP - Open to families with a combined income of $30,000 or less, this program supplements financial aid packages that fall more than $1,000 short of students’ financial needs. The Unmet Need Scholarship Program is open to US citizens and permanent residents who are accepted or enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at approved, accredited institutions. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible to apply. Recipients are selected based on financial need. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,800. *ZONTA INTERNATIONAL JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - Women of any nationality pursuing undergraduate business degrees who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field are eligible to apply for the $5,000 award, to be used for tuition, books, or living expenses. Scholarship candidates must be eligible to enter the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university/ college/institute program at the time funds are received from Zonta International Headquarters in November. In addition, candidates must have achieved an outstanding academic record during the first two-to-three years of academic studies and demonstrate intent to complete a program in business showing outstanding achievement in business-related subjects, as recorded on the official university transcript. Scholarship candidates must also be nominated by a local Zonta club Contact your local Zonta Club and get access to application and additional information by going http://www.zonta.org/site/PageServer?pagename=zi_issues_programs_klausman_application. Deadline for application: May 2008.

*STUDENT-TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP - Area XI, Division 69, East County, San Diego, CA Retired Teachers Association pledges up to three $1500 scholarships for the 2008-09 school year. Scholarship money is to be used for tuition and/or books and supplies during student-teaching semesters. Applicants who have already completed student-teaching or who will not be student-teaching during the year of the scholarship are not eligible. Applicants must have a BA, be enrolled in the teacher-training program of the University, and be a resident of San Diego County. Go to www.pointloma.edu/financial for link to application and further information. Deadline: applications and supporting documents must be postmarked no later than Monday, May 5, 2008.

COUNCIL OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Scholarships are available to students attending any of the Nazarene institutions of higher education including Point Loma Nazarene University, but the majority of awards must be made to those attending Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. Persons eligible for scholarships must be born-again Christians who were admitted to the University before being considered for the scholarship. Three recommendation forms must also be completed and submitted. Scholarships may be applied only toward tuition and may be in varying amounts up to full tuition. For application and recommendation forms, go to http://www.pointloma.edu/FinancialAid/Outside.htm. Deadline: Application and all 3 recommendation forms must be returned to the Student Financial Services Financial Aid Office on or before April 15, 2008.

EDNA McCORMACK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Scholarships are available to students attending any of the Nazarene institutions of higher education including Point Loma Nazarene University. Persons eligible for scholarships must be born-again Christians who were admitted to the University before being considered for this scholarship. Three recommendation forms must also be completed and submitted. Scholarships may be applied to tuition, fees, books, board, or room charges. For application and recommendation forms, go to http://www.pointloma.edu/FinancialAid/Outside.htm. Deadline: Application and all 3 recommendation forms must be returned to the Student Financial Services Financial Aid Office on or before April 15, 2008.

WIDMEYER, YEATTS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS SCHOLARSHIP FUND - Scholarships are available to students from World Mission areas attending Point Loma Nazarene University. Persons eligible for scholarships must be born-again Christians and submit one recommendation from their Regional Director, Field Director, or Mission Council (recommendations must be submitted from 2 persons who officially represent the institution where the student is enrolled as well). Scholarships are applied to tuition only and may be in varying amounts up to full tuition. The recipient will be responsible for all other college expenses. RELAY FOR LIFE CEREMONY OF HOPE – Honor a cancer survivor or remember someone who was lost to cancer with a luminaria at the Relay for Life event on April 19th. Come to the Wellness Center today to make a luminaria “In Honor of” or “In Memory of” someone that will be used at the Relay for Life Ceremony of Hope. Suggested donation: $1 to help save lives and give hope through the American Cancer Society.

MASSAGE - Get a great massage at the Wellness Center. Massage therapist available every Tuesday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 619-849-2574 or come to the Wellness Center to schedule your appointment in advance. Cost: $1 per minute.

The Office of Development will be hiring a student assistant (20 hours/week) for the summer. Responsibilities include data entry, phone calls, filing, mailings and other duties as assigned. Check the online job board for an application.

SUMMER PLANS? – If you still don't have plans for summer, consider staying on campus and working full-time at PLNU. You will get a free room for the summer and will be able to move into your fall on-campus housing early. SUMMER ADMISSIONS ASSISTANT - The Office of Undergraduate Admissions needs to hire three fulltime student assistants for the summer. Fulltime employment will qualify students to stay in a PLNU residence hall for the summer, free of charge. THIS SUMMER BUILD HOMES OUT OF LEGOS! (KIND OF) - Are you interested in getting involved in mission work this summer? Lazarian World Homes, a local nonprofit organization partnering with PLNU is planning to travel to Tecate, Mexico to construct eco-friendly and innovative buildings as models for homes designed for poor people who lack adequate housing. The buildings will be used by a Nazarene Seminary in Mexico. The homes are built using blocks that look like and fit together like legos. We would love to have you join us! We also have a group of students going to the country of Armenia to continue a similar building project started last summer by a PLNU Loveworks team. 9 Steps to Research Paper Success


1. Understand the Assignment:
Review topic/research guidelines, length, due-date.

2. Prepare a Schedule: Set deadlines and consider the amount of time needed.

3. Brainstorm and Choose a Topic: Narrow enough to focus research; broad enough to allow you find an adequate amount of information.

4. Make a Tentative Outline: Include a tentative thesis and title.

5. Accumulate Research: Utilizing the library, periodicals, reference books, and internet.

6. Make a Final Outline: Revise and fill in previous outline.

7. Write a Rough Draft: Do not worry about spelling or punctuation; include an introduction, and support every thought clearly.

8. Revise and Rewrite: Check organization, re-read and edit second draft.

9. Put the Paper in Final Form: You should have: Revised, proofread, and formatted with footnotes, bibliography and title page.
