Academic Announcements


*CHECK YOUR SCHEDULE - Please remember to take the time to check your schedules online for any time changes or building and room changes that may have occurred during the break.

*RETURNING STUDENT CHECK-IN - All returning students are required to check in to indicate “I am here.” To check in you can log into any computer at my.pointloma.edu. If you do not check in by Friday, January 18, 2008, you may be dropped from all your classes!

*ADDING COURSES - The last day to add 16-week courses is Friday, January 18th. The last day to add Quad I courses is Friday, January 11th.

*LOOKING FOR A GREAT CLASS TO TAKE THIS SEMESTER? - FOR THE FIRST TIME, A CLASS ON WOMEN IN MAJOR RELIGIONS IS BEING TAUGHT AT PLNU AND. . .YOU SHOULD BE IN IT! -- This class looks at the impact that religion has on women and the influence women have had on religion. The major religions examined include Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Goddess Worship, and Indigenous religions. -- We will encounter women from around the globe and women of various color, ethnicity, nationality, and social class. -- The class covers general topics as well as specific issues surrounding the sacred texts, ethics, sexuality, violence, and ecology. -- Our approach includes archaeology, anthropology, sociology, literary criticism, biblical hermeneutics, theology, and feminism. -- MALE and FEMALE students who care about each other and the role of women and religion in our world today will want to take this class. Financial and Scholarship Announcements


*NEW STAFFORD LOAN BORROWERS FOR SPRING 2008 - If you are new student to PLNU this 2008 Spring semester and have applied for a Stafford Loan, or if you are a continuing student this 2008 Spring semester and have applied for a Stafford Loan for the first time during your tenure here at PLNU, you are required by federal law to complete a Stafford Loan Entrance Interview. Your Stafford Loan will not be credited to your student account without an entrance interview. To satisfy this requirement, please go to www.edfund.org , click on EDTEST at the upper right-hand corner of the website and follow the instructions accordingly. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Student Financial Services at x2538, sfs@pointloma.edu, or drop by our office at Draper Hall.

*MEAL PLAN CHANGES - IMPORTANT: The deadline to change your meal plan for the Spring semester is FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2008. If you would like to change your meal plan, please go online to your student portal and make the changes within the first two weeks of the semester. Changes to meal plans are not allowed after January 18th. If you have any questions, please contact Student Financial Services at ext. 2538 or sfs@pointloma.edu.

*HEALTH INSURANCE WAIVER - IMPORTANT: The deadline for waiving or accepting the University's health insurance for the spring semester is FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2008. Waiving or accepting the health insurance must be done through your student portal. If you waived the health insurance in the fall semester, you do not need to do it again in the spring. All students who have not waived their health insurance by February 1st will be charged a $320 health insurance premium for the spring semester. The health insurance fee cannot be waived after this date, even if you have other insurance coverage. If you have any questions, please contact Student Financial Services at ext. 2538 or sfs@pointloma.edu.

*CAL GRANT DEADLINE IS MARCH 2, 2008 - If you would like to apply for a Cal Grant for the first time in the 2008-2009 Academic Year (Fall 2008 and Spring 2009), you must go to the Records Office to request a GPA Verification to be sent to CSAC (California Student Aid Commission) AND file a 2008/2009 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov by MARCH 2, 2008.


Spiritual and Student Development Announcements


*SEX IN THE GREEK
- January 16th at 6 p.m. Film presentation in the Greek and panel discussion will follow indoors. The theme for discussion is: hate and violence in our society. The movie presented will be "The Laramie Project.” This event is sponsored by Student Development, Spiritual Development and ASB.

*DONATE A MEAL FOR HOMELESS MINISTRY - This semester you have the opportunity to donate up to one caf meal a week to Bread of Life, a homeless ministry on campus. All you have to do is e-mail your school ID number to me each week and one of your caf meals will become a sack lunch that we will give out during our ministry in downtown San Diego. *FILM FORUM - Join us Thursday, January 17 at 7 p.m. in the Crill Auditorium for the movie JESUS CAMP. Dr. Karl Martin will facilitate discussion following the movie.

*PLNU BOOKSTORE INFO - Bookstore "Back to School" Hours: January 7-9, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Thursday, January 10, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday, January 11 - 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, January 12, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Last day to return Spring textbooks is January 11th. All returns and exchanges are at the buyback window. Express Store Hours: January 7-9, 7:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.; January 10, 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.; January 11, 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.; January 12, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
