Academic Announcements
*DECLARING YOUR MAJOR? - The PLNU Academic Advising Office assists undergraduate students with declaring, adding or changing academic majors, minors, and concentrations. We also coordinate faculty advising and will assign department-specific faculty advisors so students can begin collaboration with advisors as soon as possible. Undeclared students are served through the Academic Advising Office and are encouraged to contact Dr. Kim Bogan to begin the exploratory process toward declaring an academic major at PLNU. Academic Advising is located in the Bond Academic Center. ASIAN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (ABA) FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - Each year the Asian Business Association Foundation, San Diego, accepts applications from high school and college students as part of its annual scholarship program. Applicants must be either a high school or undergraduate college student, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be a San Diego County resident, and be a US Citizen or permanent resident. Applicants are asked to include a personal narrative with their application. Applications are available online at http://www.abasd.org/commNewsFilter.php?id_comnews=8. Admissions Announcements
*FALL GRADUATES - If you plan to complete your graduation requirements this Fall and have not had your final grad check, please come into the Records Office and fill out a Request for Grad Check form. You will be contacted with an appointment time to come in and finalize your graduation status. A final grad check is required in order to be considered as a candidate for a degree.
*LAST DAY TO DROP - The last day to drop a QUAD I course is September 19th. The last day to drop a semester long (16-week) course is November 7th.
*DROPPING CLASSES - To drop a class you need to pick up a Change of Schedule Form from the Records Office. Your Advisor’s signature is highly recommended. Once your form is completed and signed, return it to the Records Office so that your class can be dropped. The Records Office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*FREE COFFEE FRIDAYS - Anyone interested in or that has questions about ministry are invited to stop by Smee Hall after chapel for a free cup of coffee and discussion with the CPL team, and STCM professors, and PLNU classmates. Hope you can make it!
*SEMINARY REPRESENTATIVES ON CAMPUS DURING THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 22 - Nazarene Theological Seminary representatives will be on campus for their annual recruitment visit during the week of September 22, 2008. Look for their booth on the plaza outside the Cafeteria entrance. Dr. Ron Benefiel, President of NTS, will be guest Chapel speaker during the week, and will speak in some classrooms. Tim Gaines, a PLNU Alumni, and now the Assistant Director of Admissions for NTS as well as a seminary student, will be available around campus to answer any questions you may have about a seminary education throughout the week; and will also host a time of casual meal and discussion just before “Time Out,” on Wednesday, September 24, for any PLNU students curious about seminary. Tickets are available in the School of Theology and Christian Ministry (Smee Hall, Room 200) for this FREE EVENT.
*NAZARENE THEOLOGICAL SOCIETY HOSTING FREE MEAL AND CONVERSATION TIME ON CAMPUS - Any PLNU student curious about NTS, what a seminary education may have to offer them, or seminary in general, are invited to a CASUAL TIME OF DINNER AND CONVERSATION with the NTS representatives on Wednesday evening, September 24, 2008, at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served on the Cooper Music Hall west plaza. After dinner, join NTS as they head over to the Living Room in Nicolson Commons for regularly scheduled Time Out event, which begins at 9 p.m., where NTS reps. will be the guest speakers. Free tickets for the meal/conversation event are available in the School of Theology and Christian Ministry now located on the top floor of Smee Hall, Room 200, for any interested PLNU student. *CONNIE SHEU - GUITAR - FRIDAY IN CRILL PERFORMANCE HALL - Classical guitarist Connie Sheu will appear in Crill Performance Hall on Friday, October 19th. Connie shared her musical journey with the Music Department students last Spring--how she had to build the confidence to believe that she could excel as a musician and how she became transformed during an audition with Julliard, playing better than she ever had before. Her passionate performances reflect her Christian faith and her love of music. This is a Cultural Arts Event. *FREEMASONRY AND THE MAGIC FLUTE: LECTURE AND DISCUSSION - Mozart and Schikaneder, through "The Magic Flute," were actually trying to save the Freemasons by demonstrating to the public that the Freemasons (a.k.a. the Sun Priests) held Reason, Truth and Virtue in the highest esteem. This was a vain effort on Mozart's part since the Hapsburg Monarchy eventually dissolved the Freemasons after Mozart's death. However, you can learn more about Freemasonry and its relationship to "The Magic Flute" by attending a lecture and discussion TONIGHT at 7 p.m. in Crill Performance Hall. (This is not a treatise on The Da Vinci Code.)

Cornell Note taking- divide your paper into three sections: Notes, Key Words, Summary
Notes - use outline format, short phrases, space between items for adding more information after class
Key Words - choose one or two words that summarize the topic
Summary - leave space at the bottom; during study time, summarize the topic covered in your own words
MAKING NOTES WORK FOR YOU! Review notes the same day they’re taken. As you review, write additional key words or phrases in the left margin. Place a check mark beside the terms and facts you know. Review the words unchecked until all key words and facts are checked.
