Mission
PLNU, Voices in Praise (VIP) Gospel Choir exists to glorify God thorough excellent choral and instrumental worship and praise.
Vision Statement As a member of the Point Loma Nazarene University’s “vital Christian community”the Voices In Praise Gospel Choir will provide opportunities for participants to practice the presence of God through exuberant choral worship and praise. VIP also seeks to foster an environment that accepts and values diversity by providing a variety of opportunities for multi-ethnic expressions for worship and praise. Performances in local churches and community events, campus activities (i.e., Campus Chapel and MOSAIC events) and a Spring Concert are examples of VIP service opportunities.
BackgroundThe Gospel Choir was re-organized in fall 2005 as a co-curricular activity under the Office of Diversity Student Services (MOSAIC). In August 2005, a group of 20 students, 1 staff and 3 community members, met in Cooper Music Building and chose the name, “PLNU Voices in Praise Gospel Choir”. As rehearsals continued enrollment grew to 35 members by semesters’ end. Current membership for spring 2006 has reached 53 members, (43 students, 2 staff members, 7 community members, and 1 alumnus). VIP has performed in PLNU Christmas Staff Chapel (Dec 2005), MOSAIC Christmas Banquet (Dec 2005), Campus Chapel (Feb 2006), and BSU Black History Month Banquet (Feb 2006). The first annual Spring Choir Concert was the culminating event of the 2005-2006 academic year.
