Dr. Jabbeh Wesley is from Monrovia, Liberia, immigrating to the United States in 1991 during the Liberian civil war. She earned her doctorate in creative writing and English at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo in 2002, and has published two poetry collections, Before the Palm Could Bloom, Poems of Africa, and the 2003 acclaimed work, Becoming Ebony. Her poems have appeared in numerous literary magazines, and she appears regularly at poetry festivals, most recently Calvin College's Festival of Faith and Writing. Dr. Jabbeh Wesley teaches at the Penn State University, Altoona campus.

Patricia Jabbeh Wesley's themes include the pain of exile and war, the love of her homeland, the realities of being an African woman, the universality of human relationships, and the healing powers of faith and poetry. She writes of her experiences, helping the audience both expand its world view and process its own difficulties. She says, “Surviving is not just about being alive after tragedy; surviving is about faith, perspective, and finding laughter again and again in order to move on.”

There will be a book-signing following the event.
