Area of Focus


Harry Watkins is Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at Point Loma Nazarene University. He teaches various courses in business strategy and sustainable business practices in PLNU’s Fermanian School of Business (FSB). He is also active in the university’s Resource Stewardship Task Force and has actively integrated “triple-bottom line” principles – e.g., balancing objectives of profitability, social responsibility and environmental sustainability – into his teaching and research. Currently, he is working with PLNU colleagues on an undergraduate interdisciplinary minor in sustainability and on graduate courses in corporate social responsibility and sustainable business practices for PLNU’s MBA program.

Experience

Watkins has more than 30 years' experience in marketing management, market research and analysis, consulting, and business education. He has held marketing and sales management positions with firms such as Tektronix, Mentor Graphics, Amerex Technologies, and Consep, Inc and was a research director and information technology analyst with the Aberdeen Group with a focus on customer relationship management and marketing technology software. He was also Interim Director of Marketing and Creative Services for PLNU while rebuilding that department. He has published articles in various journals, books, and conference proceedings and consulted extensively in strategic marketing strategy and customer relationship management best practices. In addition, he has taught marketing, strategy, engineering management, and sustainability courses to undergraduate, graduate, and executive students at the University of Oregon and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA as well as at Point Loma Nazarene University. A lifelong outdoorsman, Watkins has spent part of every summer since birth in the Sierra Nevada.

Education

Watkins earned a B.S. in Biology from Willamette University, an ASCP registration as a Medical Technologist, an M.B.A. from the University of Arizona, and a Ph.D. in Strategic Marketing from the University of Oregon.
