PLNU Post-Baccalaureate Financial Aid Application
The financial aid application must be completed on your Student Portal under My Tasks. It is a quick, simple electronic application that should only take a few moments of your time. Please contact your Regional Center's Student Financial Services Office if you have any questions about the application.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
In order to apply for Federal and/or State Aid, please fill out a FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Verification
Verification is a process in which the government validates the income information you reported on the FAFSA. You will be notified via email by the Department of Education if you had been selected for verification. In addition PLNU will be notified and will be sending you a Dependent or Independent Verification Worksheet depending what you reported on the FAFSA.
The following documents are required only upon the request of the Student Financial Services Office:
Requesting Your Tax Transcript
If you do not have a copy of your tax returns, the fastest way to receive a Tax Transcript is to go to your local IRS office and request a same-day transcript. Or, you can obtain a transcript by calling 800–829–1040 and following the prompts in the recorded message or by completing and mailing Form 4506-T (PDF), Request for Transcript of Tax Return, to the address listed in the instructions. Forms can be downloaded at www.irs.gov.
Please do not request a copy of your tax return as it will cost you and can take up to six weeks to be delivered to you.
Dislocated Worker Information
If you checked the box that you are a dislocated worker on the FAFSA (Q85 or Q103), you are required by PLNU to submit documentation of your status. A person may be considered a "Dislocated Worker" if he/she:
1) is receiving unemployment benefits due to being laid off or losing a job and is unlikely to return to a previous occupation.
2) has been laid off or received a lay-off notice from a job.
3) was self-employed but is now unemployed due to economic conditions or natural disaster.
4) is a "displaced homemaker", a person who previously provided unpaid services to the family (e.g. a stay-at-home mom or dad), is no longer supported by the husband or wife, is unemployed or underemployed, and is having trouble finding or upgrading employment.
The parent or student will be required to submit proof of dislocated worker eligibility prior to being packaged for financial aid. Proof may be the one of the following:
1) a termination letter or layoff notice
2) a final pay check stub
3) a current unemployment benefits statement
4) a divorce decree for displace homemaker
5) a death certificate for a widow or widower
6) a business statement or dissolution statement for self employed.
Independent Status Documentation
A student is considered independent for financial aid purposes, if the student answers “Yes” to any of the criteria listed below. The student will not have to provide parent Information, but PLNU will ask for supporting documentation to verify independent status. If the student can answer "Yes" to multiple criteria, documentation is only required for one.

Request for Appeal
Consideration for Special Circumstances
Students and parents may submit a Request for Appeal to PLNU if information on their 2009-2010 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) does not accurately reflect their current financial situation due to a significant reduction in income or extraordinary expenses incurred since filing the FAFSA. Additionally, students or parents who identified themselves as a “Dislocated Worker” on the FAFSA but who do not agree with the federally adjusted EFC that resulted may file a Request for Appeal.
Parent in College
Federal regulations permit PLNU to consider student appeals based on a parent’s college enrollment. Your parent must be enrolled at least half-time (6+ units per semester) in a program leading to a degree or certificate.
