ATTENTION NEW ADMISSIONS APPLICANTS FOR THE 2009-2010 ACADEMIC YEAR:
Your online application for admissions to PLNU satisfies the PLNU Undergraduate Application for Financial Assistance for 2009-2010 requirement.  If you completed the On Point Admissions Application, then you may need to complete an online PLNU Application for Financial Assistance accessible through your Student Portal

ATTENTION CONTINUING STUDENTS FOR THE 2009-2010 ACADEMIC YEAR:
The following application must be completed on your Student Portal under My Task.  It is a simple six questions and should only take a few moments of your time.  (If you have a sibling attending PLNU next year, it will help if you have their PLNU student ID handy.)

The 2009-2010 Budget and Payment Option Worksheet is only a tool to help you determine your "estimated" costs for the 2009-2010 Academic Year. This form is for student and parent use only. Please review your 2009-2010 Financial Aid Award Letter before using this worksheet.

Cal Grant

Prior Cal Grant Recipients

File the 2009-2010 Renewal FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov to renew this award.

New Cal Grant Applicants

IF YOU ARE A CALIFORNIA RESIDENT and you wish to apply for a Cal Grant, request that your high school or college electronically submit a verified Grade Point Average to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). The Cal Grant filing deadline is March 2, 2009. A FAFSA is also required.

Graduating high school seniors that will be attending PLNU and are receiving a Cal Grant must complete, sign and submit a G-8 Form in order to verify your high school graduation. Other forms that may satisfy this requirement and submitted are a final high school transcript that reflects your date of high school graduation or a copy of your high school diploma. Cal Grant funds will not be credited to your student account without verification of your high school graduation.

For more information on the Cal Grant Program, please visit www.csac.ca.gov or www.calgrants.org

Verification

The federal government randomly selects about one in three FAFSA's for verification. Verification is a process in which PLNU must validate certain information (income, taxes paid, untaxed income, household size, number in college and others) reported by you on the FAFSA. PLNU is notified by the Department of Education when your FAFSA has been selected for verification. You will be required to submit a copy of your 2008 federal tax return, W-2 forms, or financial documents, and a completed verification worksheet. (If a student is dependent, documents are required from both parents and students.) Students may not be awarded any federal or state aid until all verification documents are received and processed. It is recommended that students and parents submit all documents as soon as possible in order to receive the best financial aid package.

The following documents are required only upon the request of the Student Financial Services Office:

Requesting Your Tax Transcript

If you do not have a copy of your tax returns, the fastest way to receive a Tax Transcript is to go to your local IRS office and request a same-day transcript. Or, you can obtain a transcript by calling 800–829–1040 and following the prompts in the recorded message or by completing and mailing Form 4506-T (PDF), Request for Transcript of Tax Return, to the address listed in the instructions. Forms can be downloaded at www.irs.gov.

Please do not request a copy of your tax return as it will cost you and can take up to six weeks to be delivered to you.

Dislocated Worker Information

If you checked the box that you are a dislocated worker on the FAFSA (Q85 or Q103), you are required by PLNU to submit documentation of your status.  A person may be considered a "Dislocated Worker" if he/she:

1)  is receiving unemployment benefits due to being laid off or losing a job and is unlikely to return to a previous occupation.
2) has been laid off or received a lay-off notice from a job.
3) was self-employed but is now unemployed due to economic conditions or natural disaster.
4) is a "displaced homemaker", a person who previously provided unpaid services to the family (e.g. a stay-at-home mom or dad), is no longer supported by the husband or wife, is unemployed or underemployed, and is having trouble finding or upgrading employment.

The parent or student will be required to submit proof of dislocated worker eligibility prior to being packaged for financial aid.  Proof may be the one of the following:

1) a termination letter or layoff notice
2) a final pay check stub
3) a current unemployment benefits statement
4) a divorce decree for displace homemaker
5) a death certificate for a widow or widower
6) a business statement or dissolution statement for self employed.

Independent Status Documentation

A student is considered independent for financial aid purposes, if the student answers “Yes” to any of the criteria listed below.  The student will not have to provide parent Information, but PLNU will ask for supporting documentation to verify independent status.  If the student can answer "Yes" to multiple criteria, documentation is only required for one.

1) Born before 01/01/1986? - No documentation necessary unless there is a discrepancy

Request for Appeal

Consideration for Special Circumstances

Students and parents may submit a Request for Appeal to PLNU if information on their 2009-2010 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) does not accurately reflect their current financial situation due to a significant reduction in income or extraordinary expenses incurred since filing the FAFSA. Additionally, students or parents who identified themselves as a “Dislocated Worker” on the FAFSA but who do not agree with the federally adjusted EFC that resulted may file a Request for Appeal.

Parent in College

Federal regulations permit PLNU to consider student appeals based on a parent’s college enrollment. Your parent must be enrolled at least half-time (6+ units per semester) in a program leading to a degree or certificate.
