Smee Hall, School of Theology and Christian Ministry
Would you like to honor a pastor, layperson, family member, or loved one who has impacted your life? Point Loma Nazarene University is offering you an opportunity to do just that in Smee Hall. A new building that will house both the Center for Pastoral Leadership and the School of Theology and Christian Ministry, Smee Hall is slated to be constructed and operational by spring 2008.
With a gift over $1,000, you can recognize someone in Smee Hall. Details about recognition opportunity are forthcoming, but you can still reserve a place to memorialize a minister, layperson, or loved one who has impacted your life through their service. Please contact Eric Groves in the Office of Development at (619) 849-2520 or ericgroves@pointloma.edu for more information or give online.
Purpose and Location of the Building
The new building will provide much needed space for pastoral conferences and training; create a central space for current students preparing for the ministry to be mentored by faculty and staff; and allow for more collaboration between the Center for Pastoral Leadership and the School of Theology and Christian Ministry. Smee Hall will be located in the heart of campus, symbolizing PLNU’s commitment to its Christ-centered mission and Nazarene heritage. The building will be located next to the Ryan Library and connected to the Wesleyan Center for 21st Century Studies, which is located in Ryan Library.

Significance of the Name
Smee Hall received its name thanks to a generous lead gift from Gary and Debbie Smee of Porterville, California. In this commitment, it is the Smees’ desire to honor Gary’s grandfather, Dr. Roy Smee, and uncle, Mr. Bud Smee, both longtime Nazarene church members and leaders. To date, more than $2 million has been committed toward the project.
