We simply ask that as we attend chapel as a campus community that we respect God who we are worshipping, those who are upfront on the platform leading us in worship, as well as those who are seated around us. It is asked that we will live by the biblical principle of “Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.” We pray that the chapel experience during your time at PLNU will be a time of growth for you in your life.
Chapel Behavior Guidelines
The following are some overall expectations for persons attending chapel at Point Loma. This list is by no means exhaustive. It is intended to be a standard by which we can measure our behavior.
- Each person is expected to participate fully in the chapel experience by refraining from conversation throughout the entire chapel time, standing when the congregation is asked to stand and demonstrating respect for those who are leading chapel.
- Each person is expected to listen attentively to the presentation. Reading magazines, notebooks or books, using radio/cassette/CD/MP3/Ipod players or computers and doing homework are inappropriate for chapel.
- Food and beverages are not to be consumed in chapel.
- Abuse of the chapel facility by putting feet on the furniture or defacing the property is not appropriate.
- Couples are to focus on chapel and not on each other during chapel time.
Consequences for Chapel Misbehavior
Failure to cooperate with the above guidelines will result in the following consequences:
- Warning -The person confronted will be warned, and the incident will be reported to the Director of Community Life, who is responsible for administrating the chapel attendance and behavior policies.
- Assigned Seat -The second time a person is confronted concerning inappropriate behavior, a disciplinary contract will be enacted, which may include an assigned seat in chapel, limit on the number of absences and a period of probation which limits participation in extracurricular activities (i.e. sports, music, intramurals, forensics, etc.). The student may also be required to contribute to the community by performing service activities as prescribed and any other conditions deemed appropriate.
- Review of Enrollment -Further problems in chapel or breach of the contract will result in a review of the person's continued privilege of enrollment at Point Loma. Consequences may include suspension or de-enrollment.
