One of our goals at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is to help students realize their full potential as independent people who are well equipped to make wise choices. Since our primary relationship is with the student, PLNU has a policy to encourage students to tackle problem solving as much as possible and to take responsibility for their choices.
Although families may be separated now by distance, they are still a major influence on students’ lives and their success. Parents can help their students by making sure the student understands PLNU policies and processes and by providing family emotional support.
PLNU follows all federal and state regulations on information sharing about students. Family members may view the full text of the FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) policy at our Campus Life website: http://www.pointloma.edu/CampusLife/UndergradHandbook/FERPA.htm. Additional information about this federal law may be found at the United States Department of Education website: http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html. PLNU also follows HIPAA policies (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and information may be found at: http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/.
