Several computer lab facilities, totaling over 250 systems, are located across the campus in these areas:
- Bond Academic Center
- Cooper Music Center
- Fermanian Business Center
- Family and Consumer Sciences
- Fermanian School of Business
- Rohr Science
- Ryan Learning Center (open 82 hours per week; staffed by student assistants)
- Other smaller labs across the campus
These facilities contain Pentium IV and Apple G4/G5 computers. Peripheral equipment include:
- Color scanners
- USB Connectors
- MIDI keyboards (Music lab)
- LaserJet printing with connections for notebook computers ($.05 per page)
Campus network access and electronic mail accounts are available free of charge to any enrolled student. In the labs, students may check their PLNU email account, register for classes online (WebReg), view grades and surf the Web. Students may utilize a wide variety of software:
- Word processing
- Spreadsheet
- Database management
- Desktop publishing
- Graphical design
- Presentation
- Programming
- Sequencing
- Statistical instructional software
- Departmental applications
All residence halls are wired so students may connect their computers to ResNet, the PLNU network. Currently, Ethernet (Cat5e cabling) is used. A student may connect their PC network card to a port by their desk or in any of our administrative and academic buildings to access the network. Also, PLNU Information Technology Services offers 802.11b/g wireless networking in all academic and administrative buildings on campus. Computers with wireless network interface cards will see two wireless network IDs. Students are able to connect to the “PLNU-GuestWIFI” ID. Any network card manufactured in the last four years by a reputable company such as Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, Intel, or Dell, for example, is supported on the wireless network. Students on campus may check with the ResCon staff for specific instructions on how to configure their computers for wired and wireless networking. Computer Lab Hours
