Community Ministries

Student Ministries

Be compassionate, as your Father is compassionate. Luke 6:36

Student Ministries is a unique opportunity for students to get involved in the community in a variety of ways. Our ministry teams serve in locations ranging from orphanages in Mexico to elderly homes in San Diego to churches in Northern California, and many others.

Student Ministries is open to all PLNU students. No special skills or abilities are required, just a willingness to give and receive in the context of the ongoing relationships formed in Christian ministry.

Realizing student schedules vary greatly, the time required for each group is different, ranging from groups that go out once or twice a semester to groups that go out once or twice a week. The most important thing to consider here is consistency. Regardless of what group a student chooses, community is crucial. These groups are in ongoing relationships with people and places. The credibility of the ministry which comes from showing up on a regular basis is invaluable.

Student Ministry groups are committed to coming alongside already ongoing efforts of ministry in a variety of settings. All the areas student ministries supports are in areas that churches and organizations know well; so many of our groups serve to resource these women and men who are working very hard long before and long after PLNU students come to serve.

Students who get involved in Student Ministries do so in the context of the Point Loma Nazarene University educational experience. Student Ministries is meant to be a vital part of the educational experience, raising questions and issues parallel to classroom, discussions and topics.

Ultimately, our student groups are serving in response to the love of God shown to us by the sacrifice of his son Jesus. Because of this, students who are involved must be open to not just giving through acts of service, but also to receiving the shaping and impacting effects of being a part of the body of Christ.

Check out all the ministries groups listed below and think about where God might be leading you to get involved. For more information, visit our web site at: http://www.pointloma.edu/SpiritualDevelopment/StudentMinistries
