LOVE WORKS (Short Term Mission Teams)
The LoveWorks Short Term Mission Program functions within the Office of Spiritual Development at Point Loma Nazarene University. The goal of LoveWorks is to walk alongside pastors, missionaries, and congregations who serve Christ in various international settings. Through LoveWorks, over 2,000 students, faculty, staff, and alumni have traveled to almost 60 world areas to serve with our sisters and brothers in Christ.
Each trip is unique, based on the needs and dreams of the host site. Previous trips have included evangelism, conducting Vacation, Bible School for children, constructing/renovating facilities, ministering through music and drama, visiting hospitals and orphanages, conducting medical clinics, and sports related evangelism.
Most trips take place during the first three weeks of the summer.
GRADWORKS
GradWorks is a new program in the Office of International Ministries. It is designed for graduating seniors who desire to serve in an international setting after graduation. Opportunities are available all over the world, serving with missionaries and local congregations.
These partnerships will be specialized according to the interests and skills of the student along with the needs and desires of the host site. Similarly, the duration of the trip can be as short as 3 months or as long as 2 years, depending on the student and the host site.
This program can qualify for federal student loan deferral. Also, assistance for fundraising, logistical preparation, training as well as ongoing site-support is provided by the Office of International Ministries.
YOUTHWORKS
YouthWorks is a high school missions program facilitated through the Office of Spiritual Development. PLNU students serve as team leaders, small group leaders, mission camp counselors, and in various other roles.
Team of high school and PLNU students, along with adult sponsors; serve alongside churches and missionaries all over the world, including many multi-cultural opportunities here on the PLNU educational region. These options include inner-city/urban plunges, Spring Break mission camps and service trips in Mexico, as well as mission camps and other compassionate ministries trips during the summer.
YouthWorks exists so that high school students have an opportunity to be equipped and to serve in multi-cultural settings. These experiences are strategic in that they are meeting the needs of our brothers and sisters involved in ministry. At the same time, the YouthWorks encounter is intended to bring a better understanding and appreciation for the diversity found in the body of Christ around the world.
PLNU students serve in a key role of facilitating the small group times, focusing on the spiritual formation that takes place in these cross-cultural settings. Pre-trip training and preparation is required for all students involved in YES.
