Worship Ministries

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1

Three Areas of Worship Ministries

  • The Wednesday night praise and worship event, Time Out
  • The selection and training of the chapel and Time Out worship teams
  • The selection and training of the Summer Ministry Teams that travel through the Southwest region as camp counselors and worship leaders.

Chapel and Time-Out Worship Teams

Selections for the worship teams take place during the first few weeks of the fall semester.  Leading worship is of the utmost calling and a major part of the community at PLNU.
The philosophy in selection and training of the worship teams is two fold:
  • Students should first be servants before being leaders
  • Humility and servant hood are the qualities these students should aspire to
  • We train and invest in these student-led worship teams for effective leadership on campus as well as in a local church congregation.  Students are encouraged to take these experiences from PLNU and invest in a church setting during their time here and after they leave.
Currently we have 4 worship teams and a freshman band that serve in Chapel and Time-Out.  Each band has a leader that runs the rehearsals and is the contact person for the Director of Worship Ministries.  The teams lead in chapel and Time Out on a rotating basis and 2-3 times a month.  Students are encouraged to strive for excellence with the sole purpose to be effective and purposeful worship leaders.

Time Out

Time Out takes place every Wednesday night 9-10 p.m. in the Rec. Room, located on the bottom floor of the Nicholson Commons.  Typically, Time Out consists of silent prayer and reflection, scripture reflection, worship through music and a brief meditation from the Word.  Staff, faculty, students and guests are selected to speak at Time Out services.  Time Out provides a time for students to break away from the stress that college can bring and to worship together as a community of believers.  Because Time Out is not mandatory, it lends itself to an informal and unstructured setting, which encourages students to come and share in a common desire.

Summer Ministry Teams

Each summer, students are selected to travel across the Southwest region and minister in Nazarene churches, youth camps, conventions and retreats.  The travels include Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii and all of California.  The purpose of this ministry is to serve our peers and other church communities and provide an engaging worship service that will lead others to the heart of Christ through music and the Word.  The group travels the region while representing Jesus Christ, as well as PLNU.
