Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Beail received her B.A. from Wheaton College and her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, where she concentrated her studies in the fields of American politics, political theory, and gender politics. Her research interests include theorizing about motherhood as a political identity, the politics of popular culture, and gender in Wesleyan theology. She is currently at work on a project exploring the relationship between gender and executive branch politics, including the presidency and governorships. Dr. Beail recently completed a book chapter on Nazarene pastors’ political attitudes and activities during the 2000 presidential election, and she has presented research at several national and international conferences. During the spring of 2000, Dr. Beail served as an official NGO delegate to meetings of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women.

Dr. Beail teaches courses on American government; Congress and the Presidency; Campaigns and Elections; Western Political Thought; American Political Thought; the Politics of Race, Class & Gender; and Women and Politics. As part of her courses, she has traveled with students to national political party conventions, conferences, and other countries. Most recently, she led her Western Political Thought class on a trip through Italy.

Dr. Beail joined the faculty in 1994, and currently serves as Director of the Margaret Stevenson Center for Women’s Studies.
