The university has a number of merit scholarships and other scholarships for the various majors within the department.

 

RON KIRKEMO HONORS SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is available to incoming political science freshmen who meet certain grade point average and essay requirements.

 

 CLARA COLT SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarde to students in all the department's majors on a competitive basis.



FLOYD AND FLORENCE TURNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is for political science majors with a g.p.a. of 3.5, or higher, who intend to pursue graduate work in the field. 
 

 DELLA MENDENHALL SCHOLARSHIP IN PEACE STUDIES -  This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in the Department of History and Political Science who has demonstrated a sincere personal and academic commitment to Peace Studies and has maintained a GPA of 3.1 or higher.  One might normally expect that this scholarship will be awarded to a Political Science or International Studies major who has pursued an academic concentration in Peace Studies, but any departmental major can demonstrate the required commitment to Peace Studies by documenting the following:

 1. a body of written and course work that demonstrates a growing expertise in the field,

 2. an internship or volunteer position at relevant NGOs or other agencies involved in peacemaking,

 3. internships or volunteer positions at local inner city or international border peacemaking organizations,

 4. a special project in Peace Studies approved by HPS faculty, or

 5. other relevant experience or work that advances the cause of Peace Studies.
