The block of courses offered in the ISF program are all courses normally taken individually to fulfill general education requirements of the liberal arts core curriculum at Point Loma. (WRI 110 and BIB 101&102 are required courses; BIO 101 fulfills the science-with-a-lab requirement; PED 300 fulfills the non-activity PE requirement)
The ISF block of courses adds up to a semester load of 16 units. The program allows for a student to add a 1 unit course, bringing the total semester load up to 17 units, if the student wishes to do so.
This program is designed to accommodate students pursuing a variety of academic majors and is particularly well suited for students who are Undeclared or Liberal Studies majors. It is also flexible enough to include students with co-curricular interests, including students participating in intercollegiate athletics, music, and forensics. However. There are some majors that require multiple specific courses during the first semester of their freshman year (eg. Athletic Training, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Exercise Science [see
FAQ] Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Music... unless good theory background, Nursing and Physics), that will not allow for participation in the ISF program.
In addition to the usual tuition and fees and the cost of textbooks, the ISF program includes a $275 fee to cover special expenses associated with a mid-week retreat, cultural event, spring reunion and other program activities.
Students who would like to participate in this unique program should request to be placed into the ISF by filling out and sending in the ISF registration card you received in the mail, or register online. Since spaces are limited in this program, the registration materials should be returned as soon as possible. Criteria for acceptance into this program are based, in part, upon a combination of acceptance into PLNU, payment of the PLNU confirmation deposit (not ISF fee) and date ISF registration information is received. Notification of acceptance into the ISF program will be sent by mid-June at the latest.
