The Purpose

Point Loma Nazarene University is enthusiastic about offering an Integrated Semester for approximately fifty freshmen entering in the Fall semester. The idea for the program stems from current research about how people best learn and retain knowledge by being exposed to information through a variety of experiences. This program is designed to provide these "varied experiences" through the purposeful integration of four courses from three different disciplines within the Point Loma liberal arts core curriculum. In addition, this program is specifically designed to benefit the student in the following ways:
  • Prepare the student for the challenges of academic life by teaching them skills to communicate effectively and think critically.
  • Teach the students how to maximize their university experience by making intentional cross-discipline connections. This is modeled in the ISF program at the interface of scripture, biology, writing and society.
  • Enable students to establish links with the Point Loma community, especially by forming close ties to a team of faculty members from different disciplines.
