PC Maintenance

Here are a few tips to help you keep your computer running more efficiently. Use one, or use them all. If you have any questions regarding any of these tips, please feel free to contact the ResTechs (x7378).

1. Empty the Recycle Bin.

2. Delete all temporary files.


3. Delete old .zip files.

4. Run ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter.

  • Open My Computer
  • Right-clicking the C: Drive
  • Select properties
  • Click on the tools tab

5. Clear cache and set page updates.

  • Start
  • All Programs
  • Accessories
  • System Tools
  • Disk Cleanup

6. Make sure the hardware works. If you have not used the CD/DVD drive in a long time,
    test it by opening a CD and or a DVD.

7. Clean your screen, the keyboard, the mouse, and keep your computer dust free.

8. Run windows/microsoft updates. Go to www.microsoft.com.

9. Update your virus/spyware definitions and run scans periodically.
