Troubleshooting your Dial-Up Access
What do I do if I get an error message while trying to connect to the campus network? Check for the possible following conditions:
- If you have a black window pop up (after the modem stops making noise), you will need to make the following change before the remote access will work correctly:
- Go to My Computer and double click on Dial-Up Networking
- Right click on the Dial up icon you are using and select properties (you named it in the setup procedure)
- Click on the ‘Configure’ button (near the bottom)
- Click on the ‘Options’ tab
- Deselect (turn off or uncheck) either ‘Bring up terminal window before (or after) dialing
- Click OK twice
- If you are presented the logon screen twice (once prior to the modem dialing and again after the modem connects), that asks for your logon name and password, follow these steps:
- Go to My Computer and double click on Dial-Up Networking
- Right click on the Dial up icon you are using and select properties
- Click on the ‘Server Types’ tab
- Deselect (turn off or uncheck) the ‘Log on to network’ box under Advanced options
- Click OK
- What do I do if this still doesn’t fix the error?
- You should write down the complete error message so it can be reported to the Help Desk during normal business hours.
- Use your old access to the modem pool (hopefully you didn’t delete it yet) with the number of 849-7122 until this problem can be resolved.
- Bring your PC or notebook computer to the Help Desk (by appointment) so that we can test your access with you and see exactly what is happening.
