Policy for Incoming 800 Number

WHEN RECEIVING AN 800 CALL:

DO the following:

  • Always check the display when you answer your phone.
  • The display will read 800#CALL . This call will bill to your department.
  • Transfer the caller ONLY to other university departments
  • When you transfer, tell the person answering that this is an 800#CALL
  • Tell the receiving party that the call should NOT be transferred again.

DO NOT do the following :

-Since 800 calls bill the receiver of the call, transferring a call transfers the billing.

  • NEVER transfer the call to another department, if your department has already had a lengthy conversation with the caller. Ask the caller to hang-up and dial again.
  • NEVER transfer the call without telling the receiver this is an 800 call for which they will be billed.
  • NEVER transfer the call to the switchboard.
  • An 800#CALL should be transferred to a residence hall or into a student’s personal voice mail.

WHEN GIVING SOMEONE THE 800#, USE the 800# for:

  • Prospective students and their parents calling admissions or academic departments to obtain information about PLNU.
  • Donors calling for the University Advancement office.
  • Parents calling administrative offices while conducting PLNU business
  • Any PLNU customer dealing with service problems

DO NOT USE the 800# for:

  • Any personal calls (employees, students, students working for PLNU)
  • Vendors trying to conduct business with PLNU
  • Inter-campus calling between Arcadia and San Diego (direct dial costs less)
  • Calls from the San Diego area
