A contemporary Christian music icon and an American cultural historian dialogue about the prophetic role of contemporary Christian music with Charlie Peacock and Dr. Karl Martin

Charlie Peacock is a Grammy Award winning music producer, Dove Award winning recording artist and Co-founder/Director of The Art House (a ministry of hospitality, the arts and biblical teaching) in Nashville, TN).

Dr. Karl Martin is professor of American cultural history and literature in the Department of Literature, Journalism and Modern Languages at Point Loma Nazarene University.

Was that a noose I saw hanging? Hate Crimes and Racial Climate in San Diego


Dr. Lei-Chala Wilson, San Diego County Deputy Public Defender, President of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association and First Vice President of the San Diego chapter of the NAACP


Hate crimes against individuals because of their actual or perceived race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, disability or sexual orientation are on the rise. Recent San Diego County incidents include the placement of nooses and swastikas, vandalism, and physical attacks motivated by the victim's race. This community forum will provide an overview of hate crimes under California and Federal Law and discuss their applications for charging and punishment decisions. Background information regarding hate crime groups and victim impact issues will also be discussed as well as how to report such crimes.

Making Peace Between Heaven and Earth: Creation Care and Social Justice

Susan Drake Emmerich, biologist and activist

As a former U.S. Representative to the U.N. and U.S. negotiator for the Department of State, Dr. Emmerich was a negotiator at the 1992 Earth Summit, Biological Diversity Convention, Global Climate Convention, and the Chair of the Secretariat for the International Coral Reef Initiative. She also worked for the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the World Bank, EPA, and Department of Interior. Dr. Emmerich also served as the Director of the East Coast office of the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies and as Vice President of the Au Sable Institute’s Board of Directors.
