Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC)
 are recognized by the American Medical Association as Allied Healthcare professionals who "provide a variety of services, including injury prevention, assessment, immediate care, treatment, and rehabilitation after physical injury or trauma".  Athletic Trainers collaborate with physicians to optimize the activity and normal function of patients and clients.

The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at Point Loma Nazarene University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).  The ATEP exists for students seeking an elite program to prepare them for a career in athletic training.  The ATEP Faculty provide specific academic and clinical expertise to prepare students to take the national certification exam administered by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of  Certification (NATABOC).
