PURPOSE OF PORTFOLIO


To maintain a record of the process and product of the Athletic Training educational preparation of a student


MECHANICS of the creation and maintenance of the Portfolio

  • The Portfolio is a cumulative record of the Athletic Training Major’s accomplishment of:
    • Clinical hours-recorded on the Practicum/Internship Log
    • Educational Competencies-documented for each course in which competencies are demonstrated and recorded on the student’s cum record.
    • Clinical Proficiencies- documented for each course in which competencies are demonstrated and recorded on the student’s cum record.
  • The Portfolio reflects the educational processes as well as the educational outcomes (Educational Competencies and Clinical Proficiencies). As such syllabi and significant learning aids, and assessment tools (exams), should be included. Materials from the following courses should be included:

Course notes, hand-outs (lecture, lab, in-service, symposia) should be retained separate from the portfolio.

  • Personal Library Index
    • List the titles of the professional books, journals, CD-ROM and videos currently held in your personal library.
  • The Portfolio should be contained in a 3.5 inch three ring binder. Labeled dividers should be utilized for ease of location of materials. Sections should be included for the following:
    • Clinical hours
    • Educational Competencies/ Clinicl Proficiencies
    • Personal documents related to your education, i.e., Program acceptance letter
    • A section for each class
  • Personal Library
    • Acquire a library of professional reference and educational materials that will continue to be your tools as you take your place in the profession.
