Wendy Wellman, 2006 International Development Studies Graduate has been granted an opportunity by her employer, World Relief in Baltimore to transfer her position temporarily to Burundi for a period of about nine months. Essentially she will retain many of her current responsibilities, particularly relating to tech support and grant management for their AGL microfinance institutions. She will also continue in her current position within the economic development tech unit, but will just be field-based in order to more effectively and directly support the institutions.
In addition to her current role she will be acting in an advisor capacity on the ground to a local organization that is launching a church-based savings program. She has been researching and trying to help World Relief develop similar initiatives for over a year now, and will be able to help this partner organization with their actual implementation of the program. Wellman said, "I expect the experience to be tremendous and it will help build up our own team's capacity in savings programs that will be useful as World Relief launches similar programs in the future".
