Over a wonderful dinner overlooking the Pacific, Dr. Bruce Schooling and the facultyand staff of the Fermanian School of Business welcomed PLNU MBA’s, their spouses and friends to dinner with Mr. Neal Schmale, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sempra Energy. During an hour long discussion, Dean Schooling and Mr. Schmale shared their thoughts on “Leadership in the 21st Century” and fielded many questions from the MBA’s. Sempra Energy is a highly diversified Fortune 200 publicly traded company, and Mr. Schmale is widely regarded in the business world as an excellent leader of a rapidly growing and prosperous company. Schmale is also a member of the board of directors for Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based, Fortune 500, energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' 13,500 employees serve more than 29 million consumers worldwide. In his current job Schmale is responsible for implementing Sempra Energy's growth strategy and for overall management of the Sempra Energy companies. The evening was part of the ongoing series of Executive Development Events for PLNU MBA’s, and is a service of the Fermanian Business Center, which is tasked with being a connecting point between Fermanian School of Business School students and the regional business community. The next Executive Development Event is scheduled for Monday March 23, 2009. The topic for that event is “The Pain of Publishing: The Journey of the MBA Thesis.” Past PLNU MBA graduates will share the experience of completing a thesis and offer specific counsel to current and prospective MBA’s.
