Text:   Algebra and Trigonometry by Foerster (Prentice-Hall)



Overview:
This course serves as a prerequisite to MTH 123 - Elementary Functions.  We will review and extend elementary algebra, and we will study solutions of equations involving linear and quadratic functions, and also exponential and logarithmic functions.

The primary objective of our course is to develop the mathematical skills necessary for follow-on math courses and to support come concurrent subjects.

Class time will be used to:

  • Discuss certain topics in the text.
  • Lecture on some topics not in the text.
  • Respond to your questions about subjects or exercises.
  • Take tests and quizzes.


Grading:
The approximate grading scale for this course is:

92-100%   

A

80-86%    

B

70-75%     

C

60-65%    

D








Your grade for the course will be absed on:

  • Chapter Tests
  • Short Quizzes, when scheduled
  • Comprehensive Final  (weight of two chapter tests)



Homework:
Homework will be assigned almost every class meeting. Doing these exercises is essential to absorbing the material in this course. The practice that you get is very important.  Please take advantage of this.


Final Exam:
The final exam covers material of our course.


Attendance:
Attendance is expected
at each class session. In the event of absence, you will continue to be responsible for the material covered and for the homework assigned.  See the PLNU catalog for a complete statement of attendance policy.

Your are always encouraged to come and see me.  Please let me know if you want extra help.  Free tutoring is available in the Math Learning Center in RS-230Regular hours are posted on the door to RS-230.
