Volunteer Needs:
Work and Friendship teams are organized to visit the hospital every summer - the teams are usually formed by January. No matter what your skill, there are things that you can do to help at the hospital. The hospital can use volunteer help in some particular ways:
- People to come and visit as friends and encouragers. No matter what any guest does at the hospital, the main ministry is to be an encouragement to the Kenyan staff. This is a ministry of drinking cups of tea, eating meals, praying and studying the Bible together.
- Medical professionals to provide advanced training to staff. The most effective method is for experienced doctors and nurses to spend a few weeks in Kenya working beside the staff.
- Nursing experts to work with the staff of the nursing school.
- Librarians to assist with the library.
- Medical teams to help with specialized outreach events (e.g. a week of doing tubal ligations, a week of fixing clefts palates, a week of treating surgical cases, etc.)
- Business, management and technology specialists to advise and assist in various administrative functions.
- "Handymen" (or women) to help with the many day to day maintenance needs of a nearly 100 year old hospital.

Financial Needs:
- The hospital is seeking funds to help with their “capacity building” efforts. Tumutumu Hospital has an all Kenyan staff and wants to help develop leadership skills and advanced technological skills (e.g. medical specialties) via training and education.
- Tumutumu Hospital has on of the best nursing schools in Kenya. They have two key needs in this area:
- Scholarship money, not all of their students can pay their tuition costs. There is an endowment to help provide scholarship money and churches and individuals can contribute to this general fund or seek to sponsor an identified student.
- The nursing school has obtained Kenyan government certification for a diploma program in nursing. This is the result of eight years of planning and work. Tumutumu would like to continue to expand their nursing training programs and need assistance with expanding the library and computer facilities, remodeling and constructing buildings and buying a small bus.
- Operations and indigent patient care. Tumutumu Hospital does not turn anyone away, as a consequence, they often have patients who can not pay their bills and this is a drain on their operations budget.
All donations for the hospital can be made through the Medical Benevolence Foundation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). For further information, contact Maria Zack.
