Jane Frey began teaching Suzuki violin and viola pedagogy in 1978 in Houston, Texas where she studied privately with Harold Clyde Hess, a pupil of Ysaye. Jane holds a degree in Music Theory with a double concentration in viola performance and piano performance from
Baylor University where she was the teaching assistant to Julia Hardie, professor of viola and

founder/director of the
Baylor University Suzuki String School. After graduation, Jane became a section violist in the Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Opera Orchestra and the Dallas Ballet Orchestra while she was founder/director of the Irving Suzuki Institute and studying graduate viola performance with Ellen Rose. After moving to
Boston in 1989, Jane was a substitute violist in the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and the Boston Ballet Orchestra while she taught Suzuki violin and viola and was director of orchestras at the Suzuki School of Newton (MA). Jan
e has lived in
San Diego since 1991 where she has maintained a privat
e studio and worked as a substitute violist in the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and as a studio musician in the recording and motion picture industry in
Southern California. An SAA registered Suzuki violin and viola teacher since 1984, Jane has studied pedagogy with John Kendall, Doris Preucil, Beth Titterington, Roger Steig, Moshe Neumann and Debbie Ogden Goolsby. After serving as a guest workshop lecturer and master class teacher in TX, LA, PA, NY, MA and CA and teaching in the SDSU Suzuki String Program, Jane is honored to be joining the San Diego Young Artists Symphony organization a Suzuki violin and viola teacher.
