Point Loma Nazarene University was founded in 1902 in Los Angeles as a four year Christian liberal arts college. PLNU provides higher education in the liberal arts and preparation for service and leadership in selected professions for students who desire such an education in an environment of vital Christianity in the evangelical and Wesleyan tradition.
PLNU is situated on a 90 acre campus on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The close proximity to the city of San Diego offers cultural opportunities and an ideal location for study and personal development. The Cooper Music Center, built in 1995, is symbolically located at the campus center.
The Department of Music offers four concentrations leading to the bachelor of arts degree with a major in music. The concentrations are performance, church music, music education, music theory/composition. Interdepartmental majors are also offered in church music/youth ministries and music/business. In addition, the department offers a music minor.
Graduates from the department have accepted key positions as music educators, college/university professors, church musicians and performing artists. Those students desiring graduate study have been accepted at major universities such as Indiana University, Arizona State University, University of Southern California, University of California at Fullerton and North Texas State University.
YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO MAJOR IN MUSIC to qualify for a scholarship.
