Plan for an Audition

Complete the Music Scholarship Application online, or print the application (pdf) and mail or fax to the Music Office.

Plan ahead for your audition.  Give yourself plenty of time to prepare.

You will be evaluated for overall talent, diversity of skills and repertoire.  Your  audition should reflect these criteria.  We have a "guide sheet" for each performing area.

Preparation:  Remember that what you can do best is your best representation!  Your present private or high school music teacher could most effectively assist in selection of audition material.

Singers should plan to sing two to three memorized works of their choice, with at least one from the classical repertoire.

Pianists and Instrumentalists (including Percussionists) should plan to play two memorized pieces from contrasting periods, not more than five minutes each.  An excerpt or movement from a longer composition would be acceptable.  You may be asked to do some sight reading as well.

RECORDED AUDITIONS:  If you are some distance from San Diego and cannot conveniently schedule an on-campus audition, you may send a high quality recording (DVD, VHS or CD) along with your application.
