Campus Life

Campus Life Unknown (or inaccessible) property:CurrentPageVersion.PageID

Part of the experience of college is living, studying and breathing the same air as your classmates. You will likely make some of the best friends you will ever have, create a ton of memories, and learn a lot about people in the process. At Point Loma, we understand that this is an important part of university life, and we do everything we can to help make it happen.

Welcome from the ASB President

Taylor JohnsonHello New Students,

Words cannot express how excited I am for you! Some of you may be highly anticipating this new adventure that you are about to embark on. Others of you may be feeling anxious about leaving home and even starting to second-guess your decision to come to PLNU. Whether either of these describe you or not, know that you’re in our thoughts and prayers as you make this pivotal transition in your life.

As you prepare to come to Point Loma, expect an exciting time of growth and change. During my time here, I have been stretched academically, relationally and spiritually in countless ways. I can honestly say that I will leave this place completely different than how I came. You will see yourself shaped by conversations you will have with your professors in the caf, by the student ministries that you may be involved in and by the relationships with your hallmates—people who will become some of your best friends. I encourage you to not take it forgranted and to soak it all in!

Most of all, it is my desire and hope that you know that you are loved and cherished—not only by the people here at Loma—but ultimately by God! I pray that you encounter the genuine love of Christ as you interact with the people in this community and as you take advantage of the opportunities here.

I am excited to meet you and I look forward to seeing what passions and talents you bring to Loma! Please know that I am praying for you not only as we prepare for your arrival, but also throughout the school year. May Christ’s peace surround you and your family during these days ahead!

Love boldly,

Taylor Johnson

Computers FAQs

Should I bring a computer to Point Loma?

We recommend that students have a computer available for their personal use. A laptop may be prefered due to the limitied space in the shared residence hall rooms and the availablity of our campus-wide wireless network. If you bring a Dell brand computer that meets the minimum standards (we recommend two years old or newer) or purchase a new Dell computer, it is guaranteed to be compatible with all university network services.

What computer platform (e.g. operating system)  should I choose?

We recommend Windows Vista, Mac OS X Leopard/Tiger, or Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3).

Business majors: are required (business minors recommended) to have a Windows laptop or tablet PC by the start of their sophomore year.

Music majors: are may bring either a Mac or PC.

Art & Design majors: are encouraged to bring a Mac, rather than a PC.

While other students are not required to bring a Windows computer, we recommend it since this is the campus standard.
