Cell phone coverage on campus is best when using the following carries:

  • T-Moble
  • AT&T
  • Sprint

All other carriers have limited coverage across campus.

All residential students are assigned an individual voicemail box that is electronically associated with the telephone number of their residence hall room. After students have checked into their residence halls, you may leave a voicemail message for your student in the following ways:

1. Dial your student’s phone number. If the phone is not answered, the call will transfer to voicemail after the fourth ring. Listen to the recorded message. A prompt should direct you to select the option associated with your student’s voicemail box.

  • Select the option for your student and leave a message.
  • If recording announces students other than your student, press the * key, then press 1 to dial by name.
  • If no mailbox is set up on that extension, stay on the line. When prompted, press 1 to dial by name.

Dial your student’s voicemail box by dialing by name. If you are already connected to the voicemail system as described above, follow the prompts. Otherwise, Dial (619) 849-7070 and follow the prompts.

  • Dial last name first.
  • Leave message in student’s voicemail box.

Note: Voicemail boxes are assigned prior to arrival at the university. Students receive an information packet, which includes instructions for voicemail, telephone number, long distance code, and telephone billing when they check in. If the packet is lost or students have questions, they may call the Office of Telecommunications at (619) 849-2432 on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students may also leave a message at x. 2432 any time. Messages will be answered as soon as possible on the next business day.
