Hotel Information
Point Loma’s preferred hotels provide a discounted rate to PLNU family and friends and also return 10 percent of their profits back to PLNU’s University Fund for student scholarships. Hotel rates are based on availability and subject to a room tax. To guarantee a special rate, each guest must ask for the Point Loma Nazarene University rate at the time the reservation is made. Some black-out dates may apply. Some hotels offer free parking and others require a “self parking” fee. Please inquire at the time of reservation if this fee is applicable. All rates are guaranteed until December 31, 2008. For more information about our preferred hotels, visit www.pointloma.edu/hotels.
Book Recomendation
Sending Them Off!
Sending a child to college is a challenge for the entire family. We recommend Letting Them Go, a book by Dave Veerman, to help you navigate the next few months. Letting Them Go is written from a Christian perspective and offers practical advice for managing this exciting time of transition.
You can order this book online from your favorite Internet site or local bookstore.
Health Insurance
All undergraduate students are automatically charged for health insurance unless the student completes the online insurance waiver process via the student portal at www.mypointloma.edu. The fall 2008 semester deadline for waiving the university health insurance is September 19, 2008.
Freshman Car Policy
First-year residential students are not permitted to bring vehicles to campus. This includes parking vehicles in the nearby community neighborhood. To inquire about more information on the PLNU car policy please see FAQ.
-
Freshman, for this university policy, is defined as any student who graduated from high school within the last year. This classification will not change until the student has completed two semesters at Point Loma Nazarene University.
For a medical exception, call the NSO information line at (619) 849-2256 or send an e-mail request to NSO@pointloma.edu.
Parents Weekend – November 7-9, 2008
We will offer you many opportunities to see your son or daughter in the university environment. We schedule time for you to attend classes and Chapel with your student, as well as time to meet the university president and other parents. We hope you can join us for this fun weekend! For more information you can visit www.pointloma.edu/parentconnection. PLNU also hosts a Grandparents Weekend in the spring. The Parent’s Council is a group of experienced Point Loma parents who desire to serve and build relationships with you. The council works yearlong to offer events, programs, and services that keep you connected with your student, university life, and with other PLNU parents. Parent’s Council members look forward to meeting you during New Student Orientation.
