The issue of global conservation is all about responsibility. Your responsibility. My responsibility. Our responsibility. With many experts acknowledging that our planet is slowly deteriorating, Point Loma Nazarene University has decided to take action at preserving the precious natural resources that Earth offers its inhabitants and has demonstrated a commitment to stewardship.
As part of the school’s annual Creation Care Week, Oct. 1-7, there will be several public events designed to raise awareness and increase participation in saving our planet, including tours of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (in Point Loma) and Edco Recycling Facility, native plant walks, and a panel discussion with respected scientists on the impact of local climate change. The week will conclude with a La Jolla Shores Beach Clean-Up on Saturday, Oct. 6, starting at 11 a.m.
In addition, Wednesday, Oct. 3, brings the Creation Care Fair to PLNU. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., many local environmental organizations will have booths lined along the campus mall, providing information, asking questions and meeting with students in a mini-Earth Day fair. Participating organizations include: I Love A Clean San Diego, Habitat for Humanity, Toyota, which will feature their hybrid vehicles, and Zero Waste San Diego.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., there will be free electronics recycling drive. Simply drop off your old computer monitors, CRT and plasma screens, printers, copiers, fax machines, keyboards, mice, televisions, telephones, calculators, speakers, computer towers, stereo systems, laptops, PDAs and more, and the school will recycle them for you. The drive is part of Creation Care Week, but is being held in conjunction with the university’s Fall Festival celebration.
