On the morning of Nov. 2, Dr. Dan Martin, vice president for University Advancement, was elected by the Board of Trustees as the new President of Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU). Martin becomes the sixth president of MVNU. The position became available after Dr. LeBron Fairbanks announced his plans to complete his service to MVNU, where he has served since 1989.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is located in Mount Vernon, Ohio (50 minutes north of Columbus) on a 401-acre main campus and also has nine adult education satellite centers throughout the state, which serves more than 2,600 students.

Martin has served as PLNU’s Vice President for University Advancement since 2000, after previously having held administrative posts at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Martin is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and holds doctorate degrees in education from the University of Kansas and the University of Pennsylvania.

"Although I'm excited about this opportunity, I will dearly miss the Point Loma community – it has truly made a big impact on my life,” said Martin. “I consider it a privilege to have played a role in the support and advancement of the university's mission. Point Loma is a special place where its students and graduates are making a difference in this world – under Dr. Brower's continued leadership, the future is very bright."

After an intensive search process, including development of a timeline and leadership profile, focus groups, collection of recommendations and applications, and intensive interviews, presidential candidates were narrowed to two in October. Martin was offered and has accepted the position, and will officially begin presidential duties in February 2007.
