PLNU welcomes Dr. Mark Carter as its new director of chaplain ministries and university chaplain.
Currently the campus pastor and an adjunct faculty member at Simpson University in Redding, Calif., Carter has more than 10 years experience working with college students. He served as the campus ministry coordinator for the International Church of the Nazarene, where he helped develop a strategy for campus ministry at public universities. He gained experience training college students for short-terms missions during his tenure as the denominational assistant for Youth in Mission. Finally, he has worked as the director of spiritual formation for ServantCare International in Mount Vernon, Ohio; served as lay pastor at Christ Community Church in Olathe, Kansas; and spoken at numerous youth events nationally and internationally.
“Mark’s ministry has sought to engage his passion for God with the call to a deeper walk and authentic spiritual life. His experiences, commitment to ministry in a university setting, and love for God prepare him well for this new role,” said President Brower.
Carter received his undergraduate degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University before going on to earn two master’s degrees – one in Christian education from Nazarene Theological Seminary and the other in spiritual formation from Ashland Theological Seminary. He is currently completing a Doctorate of Ministry from George Fox Evangelical Seminary.
Mark and his wife, Rebecca, will be relocating to PLNU this summer.
