French poets converge in San Diego for unique international forum

What has more French poets than a Parisian café? The answer is Point Loma Nazarene University.

PLNU will welcome dozens of poets to its campus, as it plays host to the International Colloquium of French Poetry, entitled “Liberty, License, and Poetic Illegibility.” The four-day international conference runs from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, and will feature keynote speakers Michel Deguy, Christian Prigent, Jean-Marie Gleize, and Nathalie Quintane, all world-renowned French poets.

“It’s a very prestigious conference because we are having the top French avant-garde poets here,” said Alain Lescart, professor French at PLNU and organizer of the conference.

There will be a special “Evening of Poetry” featuring several of the invited poets, some of which will be in French. The event will take place at Café St. Tropez, located at 600 W. Broadway, Suite 130 in downtown San Diego. The event will begin at 8 p.m. and is open to the public.
