On Friday, Feb. 8, more than 150 pastors from the greater San Diego area participated in the third annual Pastor’s Day at PLNU. Pastors Day provides a way for clergy from multiple denominations to network and fellowship, as well as to be honored for their faithful service.
This year, the event featured a special guest, notable Christian author Philip Yancey, who spoke at the university’s morning chapel service. Following chapel, the group mingled in the Friendship Plaza before entering Ellipse Chapel, where selected PLNU students presented tributes entitled “What My Pastor Means to Me.”
The highlight of the day was a luncheon with Yancey. He challenged pastors to seek new ways to make a difference. Yancey’s message was also seen via video simulcast at the Arcadia and Bakersfield regional centers for Nazarene pastors unable to make the drive to San Diego.
“We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet with Philip Yancey. His insights gave those in attendance a new way to think about ministering to their congregations,” said Rev. Norm Shoemaker, director of the CPL. “It was a wonderful opportunity to grow in fellowship, in our appreciation for one another, and in the love of Jesus Christ.”
All of the participants received a complimentary copy of one of a variety of Yancey books along with information on the Center for Pastoral Leadership’s upcoming events. Additionally, pastors had the opportunity to attend Yancey’s afternoon interview with Dr. Dean Nelson, as part of the annual Writer’s Symposium by the Sea.”
