Professor of journalism Dr. Dean Nelson explores how we are surrounded by sacred moments in his new book, God Hides in Plain Sight: How to See the Sacred in a Chaotic World. “My goal is to have readers of all faiths – and even no faith – see their conversations, meals, jobs, relationships, and transitions (major and minor) in a deeper and more profound way,” Nelson said. “It’s a means by which we can see that there is more going on in the details of our lives than we might think.” It took about a year for Nelson to write the book, and when he finished, publishers didn’t accept it at first. “Religious publishers said it was too irreverent and worldly, and secular publishers said it was too religious,” Nelson said. “After doing this for five years, I completely re-did the proposal, made the sample chapter funnier, gave the book a new title, and sent it to Brazos Press, which has published [theology professors] Mike Lodahl and John Wright. They went for it immediately.” God Hides in Plain Sight was released on Sept. 1. This is the 14th book Nelson has either written, co-written, or ghost-written. Read reviews at BeliefNet and Amazon.
