With the ever-increasing need for portability and convenience, the laptop computer provides many benefits over the desktop computer. Take it to class, the library, even to the Point Break Café—and have more workspace in your dorm room. Students with wireless-enabled laptops will be able to take advantage of wireless “hot spots” throughout campus.

PLNU has negotiated special pricing with Dell Computers for its students. Access these specials at www.ptloma.edu/computers. Choose one of the standard configurations that have been specifically designed for PLNU, including a four-year, “no-fault” warranty. The PLNU Bookstore’s Computer Department can perform the necessary warranty repairs for Dell Latitude laptop computers on site in an efficient time frame—usually within 24 hours. Warranties on other types or brands of computers may require shipping the computer to the manufacturer for repair or being available during the day to meet a service repairman.

When purchasing a computer, we recommend the following minimum configurations:

• Intel Pentium-M Processor (or Pentium 4)
• 512MB RAM
• 20GB Hard Drive
• 10/100 Ethernet Network Adapter (for connection in dorm rooms – wired)
• 802.11b Wireless Network Adapter (Optional)
• DVD/CDRW Combo Optical drive
• Windows XP Professional
• 3 or 4 year warranty

Contact the Bookstore’s Computer Department at 619.849.2607 for guidance in your computer purchase. They will have an inventory of Dell standard configuration Latitude laptops in stock at the time of New Student Orientation. But don’t wait! Please call to reserve your computer by July 15, 2005. The bookstore also keeps an inventory of computer peripherals such as printers, bags, and cables

PLNU offers a discount for Microsoft Office 2003; access an order form at www.ptloma.edu/microsoft . With your PLNU Acceptance Letter, you can order this software for approximately $55. Other software titles, such as Adobe Photoshop, can be purchased at discounted academic prices from the bookstore.
