Program Changes Announced by PLNU

3/1 - Softball facility challenges and Title IX concerns have forced Point Loma Nazarene University to eliminate four of its current athletic teams, athletics director Ethan Hamilton announced. Beginning with the 2010-11 academic year, the university will no longer field teams for men’s golf, men’s cross country and track and field, and women’s softball. The university will add women’s golf as an intercollegiate program, beginning in the fall of 2011.  Read More>>

PLNU Starts Year Ranked Third

2/2 - PLNU opens the year tied for third in the NAIA Top-25 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Sea Lions finished 2009 with a 48-13 record and a No. 4 ranking. Complete Poll>>

8/26 - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its 2009-10 Hall of Fame class on Wednesday. Among the recipients is PLNU's Cheryl Schaefer in the category as softball athlete. Read More>>

Cheryl Schaefer Named Interim Head Coach

8/10 - Point Loma Nazarene University Athletic Director Ethan Hamilton announced the hiring of Cheryl Schaefer as the softball program’s interim head coach on Monday. Schaefer, a former PLNU player and a member of the coaching staff for six seasons, becomes the eighth head coach in the softball program’s history. Read More>>

Williams Steps Down as PLNU Head Coach

Jessica Tieszen Playing for Team Canada

7/8 - Point Loma Nazarene sophomore Jessica Teiszen was selected to play for the Canadian Senior Women's National Softball team this summer. Read More

Gomez and Lent Named as All-Americans

5/20 - Melissa Gomez (1st team) and Tyler Lent (2nd team) were selected as 2009 NAIA All-Americans on Wednesday. Both were also named to the national championship all-tournament team. complete AA list | AT team

Four Sea Lions Earn All-GSAC Honors

4/27 - Four PLNU softball players were selected to the 2009 All-GSAC team: Melissa Gomez, Jenel Guadagno, Tyler Lent and Alex Wilkinson. Those four helped lead the Sea Lions to a 41-9 regular season record. Complete List

Sea Lions Repay the Doherty's Hospitality

April 16-- Every year since 2001, the Point Loma Nazarene softball team has been making the trip Decatur, Alabama, site of the NAIA National Championships. Over the last four years, Bob and Linda Doherty have served as official hosts to the Sea Lions as they compete at nationals. PLNU repaid some of the couple's hospitality recently. Read More

Williams Notches 500th Win As PLNU Takes Two

3/17 - PLNU head coach Dave Williams joined the 500-win club after his Sea Lions won twice on Tuesday. Playing at the Sunwest Tournament, NAIA No. 3-ranked Point Loma beat Rio Grande (OH) and then Holy Names. Read More

Amanda Addie Sets NAIA Stolen Base Record

April 28 - Point Loma Nazarene University senior Amanda Addie set a new NAIA record with 175 career stolen bases during a Golden State Athletic Conference sweep of No. 25 Vanguard this past Saturday. Read More
