Registration Begins March 1, 2008

The Loma Ocean View Escapes for Pastors began in 1998. The Church Relations area of the Spiritual Development Department at Point Loma Nazarene University hosted its first Pastoral Care Symposium. At this symposium, the needs of pastors were addressed in several areas. Among the areas of need were finances and family issues. It was amazing to discover that several of those leaving the ministry had never had a family vacation while pastoring.

Dr. Michael Pitts (former Chaplain and Vice President for spiritual Development) told us about apartments being provided by Northwest Nazarene University. Pastors could come and stay for up to a week at no charge for rest, renewal, study, etc. The idea came to us about the possibility of making housing available in the summer months in our Flexible Housing when students are gone.

The idea was presented to Dr. Dana Walling and Dr. Gordon Golsan and the President's Cabinet. They graciously voted to make available two-two bedroom apartments and completely furnish them. Each year for two additional years, two apartments were added, now totaling six. The enthusiasm of those who have participated has been more than we anticipated.

We begin taking reservations March 1 of each year and the schedule is usually filled within the week. Full-time ministers and families are allowed to stay in the LOVE for Pastors apartment for up to a week. The apartments are available during June and July.

Four apartments are available for stays up to one week. Each apartment has:

• a master bedroom (with a queen bed)
• a second bedroom (two sets of bunk beds [four beds])
• linens & towels
• living room with TV and VCR with basic cable.
• dining room
• two full baths
• kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, toaster and range, coffee maker, dishes for up to eight and cooking utensils.
• Ironing board & iron
• Laundry facilities are available. Last year, guests who went to the beach found it helpful to bring their own extra towels.

There are also discounted rates on rentals from Point Loma's Recreation Room located on the bottom floor of the Nicholson Commons next to the Bookstore.
