Junior High director
We are seeking an individual who
senses a call to full-time vocational ministry to Junior High students and
their families to join the Ministry Staff team at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church
in North County San Diego.
The Director of Junior High Ministry
will provide strategic leadership to a team ministry within the context of a
large Southern California Presbyterian Church. The Director will work with
students, families, volunteers and staff to help junior high students become
fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ by: Seeking integration in the
lives of students with Jesus Christ and his community of followers (the body of
Christ); moving students from the outside to the core of the worshipping
church; providing opportunities for students to connect with one another
and the larger church; creating small groups that challenge students to grow
in relationship with God and others; encouraging service through the
church and in their lives outside the church; planning regular opportunities
for students to impact the world locally and globally.

Communicates the importance of the Lordship of Jesus over all of life, presents
the Gospel in clear and meaningful ways and encourages students to authentic
following of Jesus.
• Lead
large groups of students on a weekly basis (Sundays and mid-week).
• Through
Biblical-based teaching equips and encourages students to engage in spiritual
disciplines (such as Bible study, prayer, giving, fasting…).
Team
Builder
• A
passion and demonstrated ability to recruit, equip, and encourage adults and
students as leaders in ministry.
• An
understanding of how students and student ministry fits into family based
ministry and the entire life of the church.
Shepherd
• Have a
heart for junior high students and be committed to their families while
fostering holistic (spiritual, emotional, physical, and social) growth, seeking
out those who are disconnected or in crisis.
• Be
committed to creating a safe place for junior high students to question and explore
faith in Jesus Christ.
• Lead
the support and continued growth of small groups and small group leaders,
equipping students to successfully face the challenges of today’s complex
world.
Strategic
Leader
• Build
the junior high ministry cooperatively with Children’s and Next Generation
staff to ensure that goals and objectives are congruent with the Next
Generation Ministries and SBPC’s mission and strategic plan.
• Ability
to develop and administer short and long range plans with the demonstrated
organizational skills to implement the plans and utilize resources.
• Provide
and oversee a the Junior High ministry to promote worship, connect, grow,
service and impact while partnering with outside organizations such as
YoungLife when necessary and appropriate.
Work Expectations:
• 25
to 30 hours per week of interaction with adults and staff as well as
administration.
• 15 to
20 hours per week of direct ministry with students (including programs and 6-10
contacts with students).
• Regular
2 days off per week (flexible schedule but required depending on boundaries).
• Contact
with 3-5 parents adult leaders per week.
• Regular,
involved and timely attendance in monthly all staff meetings and Next
Generation staff meetings.
• Bi-weekly
meetings with supervisor, Associate Minister of Student and Family Ministries.
• Supervision
of and regular meetings with Junior High Intern.
• Involvement
in the community of SBPC including weekly attendance and involvement in one
worship service.
Requirements:
•
Bachelor’s degree and theological training (post-graduate work preferred).
• A
minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in a student ministry program with a
strong preference for someone with experience leading 40 or more students.
• Experience
or background with YoungLife is preferred but not required.
• A clear
communicator of both spoken and written word who is able to interact with many
levels of people including students, parents, college-age and adult sponsors (volunteers),
staff and church leadership.
• Be
available to start June or July 2008.
