As a part of the Psychology Community, we thought you might appreciate the highlights of the first two weeks of the Bring It On: Get Up at Dawn Psych Tournament:

• Coach Wilmore, defending champion, is so excited about the upcoming basketball season that he and, everyone’s favorite, Andrea Hahn, lose to Stephanie Cates/Liz Kalama and Dr. Wu/Monica Chavier. Does this mean the Sea Lions win the GSAC? A big Psi Chi YES!!!

• The biggest surprise and RAGE of the tennis tournament- THE SOCCER MOMMAS (Stephanie Cates and Liz Kalama) are undefeated. Not only do they beat Coach Wilmore/Andrea, but they also beat Vice Provost Havens and Holy Daniel Bunker (double major in Psychology and Theology).

• Everyone’s Underdog, Second-Place Dan, is just doing fine. He and Leah Markham are undefeated in the Tuesday bracket. Second-place Dan personally confides that he is stoked about his chances to once and for all eliminate his moniker (“2nd Place Dan”). Kudos to the classy Alexandra Damato for helping 2nd place Dan keep his game fresh by being his “other” partner.

• Analise Tablik and Courtney Pearce are eliminated from the tournament, but not before giving Kelli McNellis and Kevin Knox a scare (6-5). If there is a Spring tournament, these women will go much deeper into the tournament.

• The Great Morning Wall (Brandon Patchin/Ruby Tovar) is rivaling the SOCCER MOMMAS as the tournament’s darling. They are undefeated beating Dr. Wu/Monica and Coach Ray/Jaki Whiffen. Last year’s experience makes them a favorite to win the tournament.

• Best match of the tournament so far. Blood was left on the court in the John Slagle/Emily Adams vs. Dr. Schaeffer/Lauren Holt match. They only played 7 games but Schaeffer/Holt lost as time expired, 4 – 3 (“gotta get to class ya know”). At the end of the match Lauren Holt says, “This is why we get on the court @ 6:45 in the morning- to make the Psychology department proud.” There were no losers in this match.

• The 2nd week ended with the Holy Rollers (Matt Jarvinen/Lauren Wallace- theo-types) beating the Love Doctors (Kelsey Clark/Sara Bacon) 6-5. I thought Christians were to let Love prevail. So much for my theology.

• HOW ABOUT THE FANTASY LEAGUE!!! This is crazy but “2nd place Dan’s” TA is in first place. However, she is tied with Laura Tardie. Wouldn’t it be crazy if Dr. Jenkins/Markham won the tournament and his TA won the fantasy league? Is Dr. Jenkins “fixing” the tournament and fantasy league?

• WILL THERE BE A TOURNAMENT/FANTASY LEAGUE IN THE SPRING? It is a lot of work to put this tournament together. Kudos go to Departmental Assistant ELIZABETH for having a great website with daily updates. The tournament will happen if you want it! Let your voice be heard!
