Personal & Professional Interests


Dr. Schaeffer has served in PLNU's Department of Psychology since 1989 and served as Department Chair from 1996 to 2001. Prior to joining PLNU, Dr. Schaeffer completed his Clinical Psychology Internship at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. His specializations include research design/statistics, biological psychology, especially as it relates to how knowledge of brain function can help us understand human experience from a Christian perspective.  Dr. Schaeffer spends a good deal of his time mentoring students in research, especially in the area of positive psychology.

Dr. Schaeffer enjoys following local sports teams, including the Chargers, Padres and Sea Lions.
