Information on Bed Bug Infestation

Shortly after the arrival of new students returning to campus for the 2006 fall semester, Point Loma Nazarene University had a small infestation of bed bugs that spread rapidly by moving on their “hosts” from one place to another. Bed bugs are a common problem on college campuses across the country, but they have rarely impacted PLNU. As soon as the problem was identified, PLNU staff took immediate action to isolate the problem and rid the rooms of the infestation. These Web pages will provide updates and resources for affected students.

Students affected have been relocated to temporary living quarters. The Wellness Center, along with Student Development, is providing physical and emotional support to students, as well as information sessions and up-to-date factual details as soon as they become available. Resident directors are available as a first line of contact for students with questions and concerns. Students have been advised to talk to professors if some short term study conflict occurred from a room infestation.

PLNU is using local and national resources to guide actions and treatment and is working closely with each student affected. By isolating the rooms and having a rigorous treatment program, the spread has been greatly slowed.
