Do I have to live on campus?
For most students, the answer is "yes". PLNU considers residential
living to be an important part of our educational experience, as well
as a vital contributor to students' spiritual growth.
Is housing guaranteed for my entire career at PLNU?
Because of limited bed space on campus you could be asked to live off campus during your Junior or Senior year.
Can I live off campus? Typically, only the following types of students will be allowed to live off-campus:
- Students over 23 years of age
- Students living with their locally residing parents
- Married students
- Graduate students
Please note that petitions are due at the PLNU Office of Residential Life sixty days prior to the first day of classes.
There's an emergency! What do I do? In the event of an
emergency, we ask that you call 911 and have another person call Public
Safety at x2525 to notify them of your location. The reason for this is
that emergency personnel such as the San Diego Police Department, Fire
Department or Paramedics will need to coordinate with PLNU Public
Safety to handle the emergency. Public Safety will then contact 911 and
coordinate location information with them. PLNU Public Safety has also
received training in First Response to emergency situations.
Did I ever agree to follow these rules? Yes. In signing a covenant with PLNU as part of your application process, you agreed to follow the rules enumerated in the PLNU Student Handbook.
This FAQ is loosely adapted from there, as well as the covenants signed
with individual Residence Halls shortly after your arrival.
Point Loma Nazarene University states certain standards in keeping
with our call to follow Jesus Christ and to be who we say we are. To
this end, these standards are the provisions of the contract PLNU has
with you.
